System Trouble Shooting- Commonly Asked Questions:
Q: It rained a few days ago, but my system has not run since then. Why?
A: Rain sensors are truly a very sensitive element of
your
irrigation system. Your system will not activate again until all of the rain
has
evaporated out of the sensor's collection device (usually mounted on the roof of
your home). Remarkably, even high humidity in the air (without
actual rain) can
provide enough pressure on the sensor
to prevent your irrigation system from running. You can typically by-pass
the rain sensor at your controller box if you wish to run your system.
Q: How do I "by-pass" the rain sensor from my controller box?
A: Each controller unit is unique. However, most
offer a "by-pass sensor" button or setting on the controller dial. For Hunter SRC
controllers it is necessary to turn the controller dial to the "Run"
postion first (9 o'clock
position on the dial)... then pass the "off" position (12 o'clock
position on the dial)...and
finally set the dial on the "by-pass sensor" setting (1 o'clock
position on the dial).
Q: How do I turn off the water to the irrigation system, but not to my entire home?
A: In doing this... it is best to turn on your
irrigation system to run one zone. When the zone is running, go into your
basement and you will hear the water running in the pipes.
Systems vary, but typically there is
either a red or a yellow shut off handle amoung these pipes (see image below). When
you rotate the handle... you should hear the
water flow stop. If the zone you set to run is no longer
watering... you have successfully shut of
the water to the system and can now turn the controller back to the off or automatic position.
(You may want to also check the kitchen sink at this time to ensure that water remains on in the balance
of the home).
